History
PROJAL University College began its journey in 2017 and officially opened in 2018 under the name Professional Journalism School of Liberia (PJSL). Founded by a group of dedicated Liberian journalists under the banner Professional Journalist Associate of Liberia (PROJAL), the institution was established to strengthen the media landscape of Liberia through high‑quality journalism education and professional training.
What started as a small initiative led by Courage Joe Chris Mubah, Siaka K. Steven, Mawata Komara, Ourima Jallah, Daynuah M. Teah, Emmanuel TJ Kolleh, and Famata T. Willie quickly grew into a national training platform. In early 2018, PROJAL conducted its first major media training, bringing together hundreds of journalists from Margibi, Bong, Bassa, Cape Mount, and Montserrado Counties.
By late 2019, PJSL was formally registered with the Ministry of Education to offer diploma programs in Journalism, Public Relations, and Media Studies. From an initial class of just eight students, the institution has since trained and graduated more than 300 journalists who now contribute meaningfully to Liberia’s print and broadcast media sectors. Current enrollment stands at over 160 students.
After more than seven years of impactful training and academic growth, PJSL has evolved into a full-fledged higher education institution, PROJAL University College, now offering four academic colleges:
- College of Mass Communication
- College of Science and Technology
- College of Business Management
- College of Criminal Justice
The University is actively working with the National Commission on Higher Education to secure full accreditation for its Associate and Bachelor degree programs.
